As a developer who migrates large sites, I want the migration to be capable of running in the background so the migration can continue even if my browser is closed or my network connection is interrupted.

Background processing has been implemented in our WP Engine Site Migration plugin and is in the process of being ported over to WP Migrate. In addition to push/pull, this involves background processing for export, import, and search and replace.
